Pumped-Storage Hydropower Feasibility Study

March 11, 2011 by admin

Essex is conducting a strategic assessment of pump-storage potential for a confidential client at various sites to provide transmission support for the planned addition of over 1,000MW of intermittent renewable generation. Analysis has included investigation of opportunities to augment existing projects to provide temporary storage of surplus renewable energy capacity and balance the load on transmission infrastructure. The next phase of the analysis will include detailed analyses of installed pumped storage capability at existing convention hydroelectric projects and investigate the feasibility of developing a new pumped-storage facility based on an off river closed-loop arrangement.
