SMP Discussions – Throughout the months of May and June 2006, NGS is meeting with Town officials, homeowners associations, and other stakeholders to review comments and concerns regarding the draft SMP and discuss potential revisions to the Plan. A Candlewood Lake Workgroup meeting will be held on May 25, 2006 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the NGS office in New Milford.
Chief Elected Officials at Work – Chief Elected Officials (CEOs) for the towns surrounding Candlewood Lake met with NGS in early May to discuss potential changes to the SMP. Based on this meeting, NGS and the CEOs are drafting a set of "Principles for Agreement: that will form the basis for the SMP and its implementation.

Stakeholder Workgroup Meetings Held – Stakeholder Workgroup meetings were held on December 21 and 22, 2005 to discuss the status of the Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) and receive input on an early stakeholder draft. Based on comments received, substantial changes to the initial draft SMP are being made. A follow-up Workgroup meeting to discuss specific shoreline management issues at Candlewood Lake is scheduled for January 17, 2006 from 9 am to 3 pm at New Milford Town Hall.

Public Draft SMP – A Public Draft SMP will be released for public review in late January or early February.

Upcoming Public Forums – Public Forums to receive input on the Public Draft SMP are scheduled for February 15 and 16, 2006 as follows:
1. February 16, 2006 – 7 pm to 9 pm - Bulls Bridge and Falls Village
2. February 21, 2006 – 7 pm to 9 pm – Lake Lillinonah and Lake Zoar
3. February 22, 2006 – 7 pm – 10 pm – Candlewood Lake.

NGS Requests an Extension of Time – The new license for the Housatonic River Project requires the SMP to be filed with the FERC by December 23, 2005. In response to public and stakeholder comments, NGS has requested an extension of time from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to allow for more stakeholder review and input. All comments on the current draft SMP are due by June 30, 2006.

NGS to Accept Additional Comments and Host Third Candlewood Public Forum for Summer Residents – NGS will host a Public Forum in June (date to be determined) to solicit additional public input from summer residents around Candlewood Lake. Leading up to the June Public Forum, NGS will work with Town Elected Officials and other stakeholders to review comments received to date and potential changes to the SMP. Supplemental information highlighting proposed changes to the SMP will be posted to the project website as it is developed for public review and comment.

Public Forum Held on Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) – On October 21, 2005 Northeast Generation Services (NGS) hosted a public forum to discuss development of the SMP. See the summary of the meeting and comments received. Additional public forums will be scheduled for January 2006 to present and discuss a draft SMP.

New Email Notification List Developed – If you would like to receive regular updates and notifications regarding the SMP, please join the Housatonic River Project Mailing List. This new email list will be used to improve notification and communications throughout the process.

NU Announces Divestiture and Sale of Hydroelectric Power Plants – In early November, Northeast Utilities (NU) announced it will be exiting the competitive energy business to focus solely on its regulated utility operations. A divestiture and sale process is now under way for the hydroelectric power plants operated by Northeast Generation Services (and owned by Northeast Generation Company). While the exact timing is not known yet, NU expects the sale process to be completed by the end of 2006.
Because the SMP is a requirement of the 40-year license granted by the FERC, the process for developing the SMP will continue on schedule.
